Research on 19th century embroidery samplers was conducted at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum as part of the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship and an internship as the Costume and Textile Curatorial Assistant. Inspired by the intense processes involved in the creation of a textile from a plant to a material, this research is meant to honor the women who created during the age of homespun. The sampler and accompanying article are published on RISD’s Manual online publication.
